NVIDIA Jetson-based Rugged Computers Bring Artificial Intelligence to Track Loaders and Bulldozers

Blog
Overview

Syslogic, a Preferred Partner in the NVIDIA® Partner Network, offers fanless box PCs that have been developed particularly for the mobile use under extreme conditions. The AI-powered rugged edge computers are used in vehicles such as graders, wheel loaders, off-highway trucks, track loaders, mining trucks or dozers.

Mobile AI computing – versatile applications and high load

NVIDIA Jetson™ is a leading AI-at-the-edge computing platform with over a million developers. Accordingly, developers across industries are using NVIDIA Jetson developer kits as the base for their AI applications in areas like sensor fusion or inferencing. However, series production in agricultural technology or in construction machinery requires robust hardware that is qualified for these types of applications. This is exactly the kind of solution Syslogic offers, helping customers take advantage of NVIDIA Jetson technology even under difficult environmental conditions.

With its powerful NVIDIA Jetson industrial modules, the embedded systems become the computer vision unit and handles tasks such as object recognition, environmental perception, or intelligent control of autonomous machines and vehicles. The AI rugged computers are able to process and evaluate data from multiple sensors simultaneously and practically in real time.

Electronic components such as edge computers which are used in vehicles such as dozers or excavators are exposed to extreme conditions. These include shock and vibration as well as extreme temperatures, moisture and wetness. The AI rugged computers by the embedded specialist Syslogic have been developed for precisely such conditions.

IP67/IP69 protection for reliable vehicle use

The ruggedized embedded PCs have a sophisticated housing and a durable electronics design. The hard-anodized aluminum housing is resistant to dust, water and chemicals. As a result, the ultra-rugged AI edge computers meet IP67 and IP69 protection classes. Syslogic uses M12 screw-type connectors for the interfaces. Syslogic focused on longevity and robustness for the other components, too. As a result, the industrial computer does not have any moving parts. Accordingly, the rugged computer is suitable for continuous use (24/7) in harsh environments or for outdoor use.

The fact that the AI rugged computers are almost indestructible not only on paper but also in continuous use and under difficult conditions is verified by numerous qualifications. Some of the endurance tests passed include vibration testing for frequency ranges of 5 to 2000 Hertz (EN 60068-2-64) or shock testing (EN 60068-2-27). Thanks to the rugged housing with the clever Goretex module, the rugged computers are also suitable for potentially explosive areas.

Individually configurable

Depending on the application, the AI rugged computers can be equipped with various interfaces. These include CAN, LAN and serial interfaces (RS422/485, RS232). In addition, the vehicle computers have radio (LTE, UMTS, GSM, WiFi and Bluetooth).

Depending on the application, the AI Rugged Computers are based on Jetson TX2, Jetson TX2 NX, Jetson Xavier NX, Jetson AGX Xavier and, from the end of 2022, Jetson AGX Orin.

Vehicle computers prove successful worldwide

The fact that Syslogic vehicle computers deliver what they promise is shown by various applications worldwide. The box PCs are used in mining trucks, construction and agricultural machinery, excavators and dozers. Customer feedback shows that Syslogic.
